Arushi secured the title at the Karnataka State FIDE-Rated Under-19 Girls Open Chess Championship 2026, held in Kalaburagi, where she delivered an impressive performance, scoring eight points in nine rounds.

Rising star in Indian chess

The state championship victory comes on the heels of several notable achievements for the young chess player.

Earlier this year, Arushi crossed the 2000 FIDE rating mark, attaining a peak rating of 2008 and earning the prestigious Woman Candidate Master (WCM) title.

She also finished as the runner-up at the 2nd Chess FIDE-Rated Rapid Tournament in Shivamogga, scoring 8 out of 9 points. Known for her aggressive tactical style, Arushi has consistently secured top-three finishes in various state-level age category tournaments.

Family and coaches behind her success

Arushi’s chess journey began under the guidance of her father, Mr. Anand D’Silva, who recognised her talent at an early age and enrolled her at Derricks Chess School.

She credits her elder sister, Ms. Anu D’Silva, as her greatest source of motivation, while acknowledging her mother, Mrs. Rita D’Souza, for providing unwavering emotional support and encouragement that has helped her balance academics and competitive chess.

She also expressed gratitude to her teachers and friends at St Aloysius Pre-University College for supporting her sporting ambitions alongside her studies.

Eyes set on international success

Currently training under International Master Sharan Rao and Woman Grandmaster Isha Sharma, Arushi is focused on achieving the titles of Woman International Master (WIM) and Woman Grandmaster (WGM).

She is also preparing to compete in international chess tournaments later this year as she continues her pursuit of excellence on the global stage.

Arushi’s achievements have brought pride to Mangaluru and St Aloysius Pre-University College, inspiring young sportspersons to pursue their dreams through dedication, discipline, and perseverance.
