Mangaluru: The School of Engineering, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), inaugurated its student clubs for the academic year 2026-27 at a programme held at L. F. Rasquinha Hall, LCRI Block, on August 18.
The initiative aims to encourage students to engage in academic, co-curricular and extracurricular activities while developing technical skills, leadership qualities, creativity and overall personality.

Student clubs inaugurated
Rev. Dr Kiran Cotha SJ, Director, AIMIT, St Aloysius, was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the programme. Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, Founder Director, AIMIT, St Aloysius, attended the event as the Guest of Honour.
Addressing the gathering, Rev. Dr Kiran Cotha highlighted the important role of student clubs in complementing classroom education. He emphasised that active participation in club activities can help students develop technical competence, leadership abilities and innovative thinking, while also providing opportunities to explore their individual talents.
He encouraged students to make the most of the various clubs and actively participate in their activities as part of their overall learning experience.
Focus on emerging AI technologies
Fr Denzil Lobo, in his address, focused on the growing influence of emerging technologies in education and professional life.
He highlighted Agentic AI and Generative AI, guiding students on how these technologies can be used effectively for learning and innovation.
He also encouraged students to take up initiatives offered through the different clubs and develop additional skills beyond their regular academic curriculum. Such exposure, he noted, would help students become better prepared for the requirements of the industry.
Encouraging holistic student development
Dr Ruban S, Dean, School of Engineering, addressed the gathering on the topic “Introduction and Need for Student Clubs”. He explained the relevance of student clubs in providing students with opportunities to engage in activities beyond their formal academic coursework.
Following the address, the academic clubs were formally inaugurated.
The programme was organised with the objective of creating awareness among students about the various academic and non-academic clubs available at the School of Engineering and encouraging greater participation in co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
Student clubs provide a platform for learners to collaborate with peers, explore areas of interest and apply their academic knowledge through practical activities. The initiative is also intended to support the development of skills that complement formal engineering education.
Programme coordinated by faculty members
The inauguration programme was coordinated by Dr Aldrin C. Vaz and Ms Nishmitha M. R, faculty members of the School of Engineering.
The launch of the student clubs marks the beginning of another year of student-led academic and extracurricular activities at the School of Engineering, with emphasis on technical learning, innovation, leadership and overall personality development.
