Mangaluru: St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) held the Investiture Ceremony of the Students’ Council for the academic year 2026–27 at the L F Rasquinha Hall, LCRI Block, formally inducting the newly elected student leaders into office.

The ceremony was attended by university officials, faculty members, students, and dignitaries, marking the beginning of a new chapter in student leadership at the institution.

Dignitaries emphasise responsible leadership

Prof. Miloš Lichner SJ, Vice Chancellor of the University of Trnava, Slovakia, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Rev. Fr Brian Pereira SJ, Rector of St Aloysius Institutions, presided over the programme.

Also present were Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, Vice Chancellor; Dr Ronald Nazareth, Registrar; Dr Anup Denzil Veigas, Chairperson of the Students’ Council; Ms Binni Chan, Assistant Chairperson of the Students’ Council; and the newly elected student office-bearers.

Congratulating the elected representatives, Prof. Miloš Lichner spoke on the importance of leadership and highlighted five key principles that guide effective leaders.

Addressing the students, Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ encouraged them to nurture their leadership qualities and work collaboratively with faculty members while promoting greater student participation in institutional activities.

In his presidential address, Rev. Fr Brian Pereira SJ reminded the council members that leadership is rooted in responsibility and service rather than position or privilege. He urged them to become role models and empower fellow students through their actions.

Student leaders take oath of office

During the ceremony, Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ administered the oath of office to Ms Giselle Pearl Vas, a second-year B.Tech student, who assumed office as the President of the Students’ Council.

Following this, the President administered the oath to the other office-bearers:

  • Secretary: Sathyaprasad G. Pai (II BSc)
  • Joint Secretary: Rachel Maria Pais (II BSc)
  • Cultural Secretary: Viveka M. S. Demelo E Granjo (II BEd)
  • Sports Secretary: Simone D’Souza (II BCom)
  • Academic Affairs Secretary: Piyush Shenoy (II LLB)
  • Student Welfare Secretary: Gratian Rovin Fernandes (II BA)
  • Outreach and Social Responsibility Secretary: Ajay Parkhe Dipak (II BA)
  • Media, Communication and Public Relations Secretary: Reon Vivian Veigas (II BVoc)
  • Environment and Sustainability Secretary: Zalifa Nassir (II BCA)

The oath was also administered to the Class Representatives and Association Secretaries.

Students’ Council Directory released

The Students’ Council Directory 2026–27 was released by the dignitaries during the programme.

The event was attended by the deans and associate deans of the various schools of the university, along with faculty members and students.

Earlier, Dr. Anup Denzil Veigas welcomed the gathering, while Ms Binni Chan introduced the chief guest. Ms Giselle Pearl Vas, the newly elected President, outlined the initiatives planned by the Students’ Council for the academic year.

The programme was compered by Verina, a B.Com student, and concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Jeevan D’Mello, Vice President of the Students’ Council.
