Mangaluru: In a significant initiative to strengthen community engagement and provide a meaningful platform for senior citizens, the St Aloysius College Alumni Association (SACAA), in association with St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, inaugurated the Aloysius Senior Citizen Forum at Sahodaya Hall on June 30.

The inaugural event witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 82 senior Aloysian alumni and other elders from the community.

Platform created for social interaction and active ageing

The forum was formally inaugurated by Rev. Dr. Praveen Martis SJ, Vice Chancellor of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), in the presence of Rev. Fr. Brian Pereira, Rector of Aloysius Institutions, along with members of the SACAA Executive Committee.

The initiative aims to provide senior citizens with a dedicated platform to socialise, stay connected, participate in recreational activities, and foster meaningful relationships while promoting active and healthy ageing.

Interactive activities bring seniors together

The inaugural programme featured a series of engaging activities, including interactive sessions, open mic performances, and an entertaining round of Housie Housie, creating an atmosphere of joy, fellowship, and nostalgia.

Participants actively shared memories of their time at St Aloysius and appreciated the University’s efforts in creating a space where senior citizens could reconnect with old friends and build new social bonds.

Several attendees also offered valuable suggestions for future programmes, expressing their enthusiasm for making the forum a regular gathering.

Fortnightly gatherings planned

The organisers described the Aloysius Senior Citizen Forum as a landmark initiative in the University’s outreach programmes for the elderly, reflecting its commitment to building an inclusive and caring community beyond the campus.

The forum will meet every alternate Tuesday, offering members opportunities for recreation, interaction, learning, and community engagement.

The next meeting of the Aloysius Senior Citizen Forum is scheduled to be held on July 14, 2026, at Sahodaya Hall.
