In a thoughtfully designed educational endeavour, the Department of Botany, Zoology, and Chemistry (BZC) at St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, organized a vibrant one-day academic excursion on Thursday. Aimed at expanding learning horizons beyond conventional classrooms, the trip blended lessons in anatomy, culture, astronomy, and environmental stewardship.

A group of 41 eager students set off at 6:30 AM, accompanied by faculty guides Mrs Smitha Vivek and Ms Shivani Mallya. The day’s first stop was the Manipal Museum of Anatomy and Pathology, where the students were introduced to an extensive collection of human and animal anatomical specimens. Observing real-life models gave them a deeper appreciation of biological sciences and complemented their classroom knowledge with practical insights.

The learning trail continued at the Hastha Shilpa Heritage Museum, home to beautifully restored structures and artifacts reflecting Karnataka’s rich cultural legacy. This visit underscored the significance of heritage conservation and the artistry embedded in traditional architecture.

A cosmic interlude followed at the TMA Pai Planetarium, where students immersed themselves in the mysteries of the universe. The experience sparked fresh curiosity and highlighted the awe-inspiring nature of space science and astronomy.

The day concluded with a reflective visit to Salumarada Thimmakka Park, honouring the legendary environmentalist. Students were reminded of the value of ecological balance and sustainable practices, reinforcing lessons in environmental responsibility.

The field trip proved to be an inspiring journey of exploration and engagement, seamlessly weaving multiple disciplines into a meaningful academic experience.
