Student unable to afford exam fees hangs himself
In a tragic incident, an 18-year-old Class 12 student from Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district allegedly took his own life after being refused his board exam admit card due to unpaid school fees. The student, Shivam Singh, was found hanging from a tree behind his home on Sunday night.
Shivam’s father, Rajendra Singh, filed a complaint stating that his son, a student at Sadhuri Shiromani Inter College, had visited the school to collect his admit card. However, the management denied it, insisting that fees be cleared first. Unable to bear the disappointment, Shivam died by suicide.
Legal Action Initiated
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against the school’s manager and principal under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The body has been sent for post-mortem, and an investigation is ongoing.
The incident has sparked outrage over the rigid policies of educational institutions regarding unpaid fees. Uttar Pradesh board exams for Class 10 and 12 began on Monday, with over 54 lakh students appearing. Shivam, however, was denied his opportunity due to financial hardship.
