HyderabadTelangana‘s state government is exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve education, focusing on foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) for primary students. With the aim of addressing learning gaps, the state sees AI as a tool to offer personalized education that caters to individual student needs, enhancing overall learning outcomes.

A delegation led by Dr. Yogita Rana, the state’s education secretary, visited the EkStep Foundation in Bengaluru on Thursday. EkStep, co-founded by Nandan Nilekani, has successfully implemented digital learning solutions in several states, including Gujarat, to improve student performance. During the visit, AI tools were explored for enhancing essential skills like reading, writing, and numeracy in early education.

Telangana plans to use AI-powered solutions to help teachers identify learning gaps and provide personalized learning experiences, ensuring all students receive the attention they need to excel. The education department emphasized that this initiative will also focus on improving digital literacy among teachers, equipping them with the skills to integrate AI tools into their teaching methods effectively.

This decision follows the success of Kerala, which has already adopted AI to improve its education system. Telangana aims to leverage similar tools to revolutionize its schools and empower both students and educators in a tech-driven learning environment.
