An Indian student in his final year of PhD in Computer Science in the UK has issued a strong caution to fellow international students, urging them to reconsider relocating there.

In a Reddit post titled ‘UK Is a Trap for International Students – My Personal Experience’, he described the current situation as “extremely harsh” for outsiders pursuing education.

The student highlighted multiple challenges: poor food standards, soaring rent prices, unstable work schedules, gloomy weather, and instances of racism.
He emphasized, “Before you decide to come here, pause and rethink—you might end up draining your finances, time, and peace of mind.”
According to him, many students are forced into exhausting part-time jobs that barely cover basic living expenses.
He recounted how several friends, after completing their Masters and even post-study work visas, returned to India in deteriorated physical and mental health due to stress.

He also added that the UK’s financial climate has worsened, leaving families back home under monetary strain.

Additionally, the student warned about the lesser value of a one-year MSc degree in the UK, stating it is often regarded as equivalent to a basic BTech or BE in India or even lesser compared to US degrees—making it a poor investment in comparison.

“99% of my friends have returned to India after their MSc or after using post-study work visas,” he claimed.

The post drew significant responses, with some pointing out that educational agents mislead students for hefty commissions, and others lamenting the UK’s tough job market, especially in computer science.
