Bengaluru: United Way Bengaluru (UWB), in partnership with Zila Panchayat Davangere and supported by Advanced Micro Devices India Pvt. Ltd. (AMD), has inaugurated digital classrooms aimed at improving coaching for students in Davangere district. These smart classrooms have been established in 21 Pre-University Government colleges, significantly enhancing educational infrastructure in the area.

The initiative addresses a critical gap in the educational system, particularly for students preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), one of India’s most challenging exams for engineering aspirants. Traditionally, many students are forced to relocate to metropolitan areas for quality coaching, which poses financial and emotional burdens on families. This project seeks to eliminate such obstacles by providing high-quality training locally.

It is estimated that over 6,500 students in Davangere will benefit from these digital classrooms. Ms. Gunjan Krishna (IAS), Commissioner for Industrial Development and Director of the Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Karnataka, emphasized the importance of quality education in enhancing the district’s economic prospects, stating, “The effort made by United Way Bengaluru and AMD to help enhance possibilities for children from the district to become engineers is laudable.”

Jaya Jagadish, Country Head of AMD India, added, “No child must have to live with the regret that they did not get the opportunity to make their life better. Through our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, AMD aims to foster STEM leadership among students, contributing to nation-building.”

Mr. Rajesh Krishnan, CEO of United Way Bengaluru, remarked on the initiative’s potential impact, highlighting the importance of inclusive and accessible education. “Together, we are taking meaningful steps to ensure that students have the tools they need to thrive in today’s digital age.”

This collaboration marks a significant step toward bridging educational disparities in Davangere and providing students with the resources needed to succeed.
