
Eleven Coaches of SMVT Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Express Derail Near Nergundi Station
In a major disruption to rail traffic, eleven coaches of the SMVT Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Express derailed on Sunday near Nergundi Railway Station, located in Cuttack district, Odisha. The incident took place around 11:54 AM near Manguli. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
Ashok Kumar Mishra, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of East Coast Railway, confirmed the derailment and assured that immediate action had been taken. “We have mobilized our resources and informed NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) and fire services,” Mishra said. In addition to this, a relief train was promptly dispatched to the site to assist with the recovery efforts.
The railway department also initiated helpline numbers — 8455885999 and 8991124238 — for passengers seeking information or assistance. Mishra emphasized that the necessary arrangements were being made to transport stranded passengers to their destinations.
Frontline officers and support staff have already arrived at the scene, and efforts are underway to restore normalcy in the affected area. Further details regarding the cause of the derailment are awaited as investigations continue.
