Mumbai: The Mumbai Police on Thursday, June 28, lodged a rape case against Bollywood actor Aditya Pancholi on a complaint filed by a well-known actress.
Mumbai Police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner of Police Manjunath Shinge confirmed the developments but declined to elaborate.
However, official sources said that the complaint has been filed against Aditya in the matter that purportedly took place some 10 years ago when he had allegedly sexually assaulted the actress.
According to the complainant, the 54-year-old actor sexually assaulted the actress between 2004 and 2009, police spokesperson DCP Manjunath Singte said.
He also beat her up and confined her to his house whenever she tried to approach police during this period, the complaint said.
The actress also alleged that Pancholi demanded Rs 1 crore from her for not showing her private photographs to her family and friends, and claimed she paid him Rs 50 lakh.
The Versova Police have lodged a first information report under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and launched a probe into the actress’ complaint.
Responding to the allegations, Pancholi told PTI, “It is a false rape case that they were planning and now they have done it. I was anticipating this. This was pre-planned as I had filed a defamation case against them. It is not a small allegation, the law will take its course, I will fight out the truth will come out.”
