Mumbai: The makers of Mahakali, the upcoming film from filmmaker Prasanth Varma‘s cinematic universe, have released its first song, Aigiri Nandini, launching the film’s musical promotions with a devotional offering dedicated to Goddess Mahakali.
Directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru, the film is produced by Riwaz Ramesh Duggal under RKD Studios, with RK Duggal presenting it. Prasanth Varma serves as the show’s creator and showrunner.
The newly released track draws inspiration from the celebrated Aigiri Nandini hymn dedicated to Goddess Durga and attributed to Sri Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya. Combining devotional music, powerful vocals and elaborate visuals, the song presents the divine feminine in both her fierce and motherly forms.
Sriya Reddy appears as Goddess Mahakali
One of the major highlights of the song is Sriya Reddy’s portrayal of Goddess Mahakali. The actress appears in a majestic, multi-armed form against a traditional temple backdrop, presenting the goddess as a powerful manifestation of divine feminine energy.
Her appearance is marked by elaborate styling and a commanding screen presence that complements the intensity of the devotional composition.
The visual presentation also explores the gentler, motherly aspect of the goddess. This portrayal adds another dimension to the character, balancing Mahakali’s fierce form with her compassionate and protective nature.
The contrast between these two aspects forms an important part of the song’s visual appeal.
Smaran Sai composes devotional track
Smaran Sai has composed the music for Aigiri Nandini. The arrangement gradually builds in intensity, creating a devotional atmosphere that matches the song’s grand visual treatment.
Anila Rajeev, Geetha Madhuri and Sai Charan have lent their voices to the track. Their energetic rendition, vocal variations and powerful delivery contribute to its devotional character.
The composition brings together traditional spiritual elements and a cinematic musical arrangement. The orchestration is designed to complement the visuals, particularly Sriya Reddy’s portrayal of the goddess in her imposing form.
With its combination of devotional lyrics, strong vocals and elaborate staging, the song introduces audiences to the film’s spiritual and visual world.
Prasanth Varma expands his cinematic universe
Following the success of Hanu-Man, expectations are high for Prasanth Varma’s upcoming projects. With Mahakali, he is associated with another ambitious film that forms part of his larger cinematic universe.
The film is directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru and features Bhoomi Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Sriya Reddy and Rohit Saraf in prominent roles.
Akshaye Khanna’s involvement has also drawn attention to the project, while Bhoomi Shetty’s presence adds to the film’s ensemble cast. The makers have been gradually introducing the film and its characters through promotional material.
Prasanth Varma’s role as showrunner places him behind the broader creative vision of the project, while Puja Aparna Kolluru is directing the film.
Technical team and Sankranthi release
The film’s technical crew includes cinematographer Suresh Ragutu and production designer Sri Nagendra Tangala. Their contributions are expected to shape the visual presentation of the mythological subject.
The release of Aigiri Nandini marks the beginning of the film’s musical promotional campaign. The makers are scheduled to release Mahakali in theatres on January 8, 2027, coinciding with the Sankranthi festive season.
With Sriya Reddy’s striking portrayal of Goddess Mahakali and a devotional track setting the tone, the film has begun building anticipation among audiences. The first song offers a glimpse of the spiritual and visual scale the makers are aiming to bring to the screen.
