Mumbai: Actor Akshay Oberoi is reportedly set to strengthen his presence in South Indian cinema after making headlines with his first look in Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown Ups. According to industry sources, the actor has signed another big-budget multilingual fantasy action film that is expected to go on floors in September.
While the makers are yet to make an official announcement, the project is said to feature a star-studded ensemble cast from multiple film industries and is being planned as a pan-India release.
Another multilingual project in the pipeline
Industry sources suggest that Akshay Oberoi has come on board a large-scale period fantasy action drama being mounted on an expansive canvas.
The film is reportedly designed as a multilingual venture, bringing together actors from different regional industries to cater to audiences across India.
Although details regarding the director, production house and cast remain under wraps, preparations for the project are said to be progressing steadily ahead of its expected September shoot.
‘Toxic’ opens new opportunities
The reported signing comes as anticipation continues to build around Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown Ups, which marks Akshay Oberoi’s debut in Kannada cinema.
His first-look poster from the film received widespread attention on social media, introducing the actor to a broader South Indian audience.
According to a source close to the development, the positive response to his appearance in Toxic attracted interest from several filmmakers across regional industries.
“The response to Akshay’s look and casting in Toxic was noticed by many filmmakers. There has been growing interest in casting him in larger South-led projects because he fits naturally into roles that require intensity and screen presence,” the source said.
The source added that Akshay had listened to several scripts before finalising the new project.
“One particular project stood out. It is a large-scale period action fantasy, and discussions have progressed positively. Preparations will begin soon, and the film is expected to go on floors by September,” the source revealed.
Expanding across industries
The latest development reflects Akshay Oberoi’s growing interest in working across multiple Indian film industries.
Sources indicate that the actor is keen to explore diverse roles in different languages while expanding his filmography beyond Hindi cinema.
The multilingual nature of the upcoming project is also in line with the increasing trend of pan-India films that bring together talent from various regional industries.
