Mumbai: Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan suffered a minor injury to his left knee after slipping and falling during a recent shoot for Kaun Banega Crorepati 18. The actor revealed the incident while addressing the studio audience during the quiz show’s latest broadcast.

Bachchan, who traditionally delivers the opening monologue while standing at the centre of the KBC stage, appeared seated at the game podium during the episode. He explained that the change in his usual routine was because standing had become uncomfortable following the injury.

The actor reassured the audience and viewers that the injury was minor and said that his professional commitments would continue as scheduled.

Amitabh Bachchan explains why he was seated

Addressing the studio audience at the beginning of the episode, Bachchan pointed towards his left knee while explaining what had happened during the previous day’s shoot.

“Yesterday while shooting, I slipped and fell, which hurt my left knee. Standing up feels a bit uncomfortable right now, which is why I am sitting here today,” the actor said.

Bachchan also sought to reassure fans that there was no reason for concern. He described the injury as minor and indicated that he would continue with his work.

“It is a minor injury and nothing to worry about. The work will continue as scheduled,” he said.

The actor’s decision to explain the change himself also allowed viewers to understand why he was not following his usual opening routine on the show.

Bachchan plans to continue interacting with contestants

Despite the discomfort, Bachchan indicated that he would continue participating in the main gameplay segments of Kaun Banega Crorepati 18.

The actor said he intended to stand up when greeting and interacting with contestants, while taking brief periods of rest between takes. He also said that his treatment was being managed on the set.

His comments suggested that the injury had not resulted in a suspension of his filming commitments.

Bachchan has hosted the popular quiz show across several seasons and remains closely associated with its presentation. His opening monologues and interactions with contestants have become a familiar part of the programme’s format.

KBC 18 continues its regular run

Kaun Banega Crorepati 18 continues to air on Sony Entertainment Television, while the programme is also available digitally on SonyLIV in India.

The latest season marks another chapter in Bachchan’s long association with the franchise. He has hosted most seasons of the Hindi version of the quiz show, making his presence central to its identity.

The actor’s latest injury occurred during the production of the ongoing season, but he has indicated that his schedule remains unaffected.

For television productions involving long shooting hours, minor injuries can sometimes require adjustments to staging and movement. In Bachchan’s case, the temporary decision to remain seated for the opening allowed him to continue with the episode while avoiding prolonged standing.

Amitabh Bachchan’s next major film is Kalki 2898 AD sequel

Alongside his television work, Bachchan continues to be involved in major film projects.

The actor is set to reprise his role as Ashwatthama in director Nag Ashwin’s upcoming sequel to Kalki 2898 AD. Bachchan played the immortal warrior from the Mahabharata in the first film, which combined Indian mythology with a futuristic science-fiction setting.

The first instalment featured Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan in key roles and became one of the biggest Indian film releases of 2024.

Bachchan’s portrayal of Ashwatthama was particularly noted for the character’s physical presence and action sequences. The sequel is therefore among the major projects in the veteran actor’s upcoming film slate.

Kalki 2898 AD won two National Film Awards

The first Kalki 2898 AD received recognition at the 72nd National Film Awards.

The film won the award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and also received the honour for Best Special Effects.

The recognition added to the film’s commercial and critical profile following its theatrical release.

Bachchan’s role as Ashwatthama was an important part of the film’s narrative, and his return to the character is expected to be a key element of the sequel.

Bachchan’s last theatrical release was Vettaiyan

Before his upcoming return as Ashwatthama, Bachchan’s most recent theatrical release was Vettaiyan, the 2024 Tamil action drama starring Rajinikanth.

Directed by TJ Gnanavel, the film featured Bachchan alongside Rajinikanth, marking another major collaboration in the veteran actor’s long career.

Bachchan’s continued work across Hindi television and Indian cinema reflects his sustained presence in the entertainment industry despite his advancing age.

His current KBC 18 schedule remains on track following the minor knee injury, according to his own comments during the programme.

Work continues despite minor injury

Amitabh Bachchan’s disclosure about his injury came directly from the KBC 18 stage, where he explained why viewers saw him seated instead of following his customary opening routine.

While the actor acknowledged discomfort while standing, he stressed that the injury was minor and that filming would continue. He also indicated that he would stand during interactions with contestants and take rest between shooting segments.

For now, Bachchan remains committed to his television responsibilities while preparing for his next major cinematic appearance in Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD sequel. Further updates about his recovery are expected if his condition requires any changes to his shooting schedule.
