Ammy Virk is a true all-rounder—actor, singer, and performer—with a range that spans heartwarming drama to laugh-out-loud comedy. As he gears up for the release of Saunkan Saunkne 2, the sequel to one of his biggest comedic hits, Ammy opens up about the film, his co-stars, and how Sikhs are being represented in Hindi cinema today.
The upcoming film reunites him with frequent collaborators Sargun Mehta and Nimrat Khaira. Their off-screen friendship often enhances the on-screen chemistry. Recalling a moment from Qismat 2, Ammy says, “Even during emotional scenes in freezing weather, we managed to stay light-hearted thanks to our bond.”
The plot of Saunkan Saunkne 2 again revolves around a man juggling multiple marriages. Despite tackling polygamy humorously, the movie faced no backlash. Ammy credits this to the audience’s wisdom. “Viewers today are sharp. They recognize the intent—whether a film aims to entertain, move, or simply cash in,” he explains, comparing it to how audiences accept exaggerated action in South Indian films.
Speaking on how Sikhs have been portrayed in Bollywood, Ammy acknowledges the past stereotypes—limited to comic or tough-guy roles. “Filmmakers drew from real-life observations, but also missed opportunities to show the community’s depth,” he notes. However, he’s optimistic about the shift, with stars like Diljit Dosanjh paving the way for broader, authentic representation.
Saunkan Saunkne 2 hits theatres on May 30.
