The Angelore unit of Young Catholic Students (YCS) hosted ‘Monsoon Splash 2024’ on July 21, a lively monsoon games event designed for participants of all ages. The event aimed to celebrate the rainy season with a variety of engaging activities.

Fr Fredrick Monteiro, the parish priest, inaugurated the event by unveiling a beautifully decorated umbrella, symbolizing the monsoon and setting the tone for the day’s festivities. The inauguration was attended by notable figures including Socius Vicar Fr Stany Fernandes, Brother Wilson, Parish Council President Paul Rodrigues, Secretary Lolina D’Souza, 21 Commission Coordinator and YCS Animator Renita Menezes, YCS Animator Roshan Patrao, Vincent Roche, and YCS President Leon D’Souza. The event kicked off with an impressive flash mob performed by YCS members.

The day’s games included cutting newspapers into strips, spoon and lemon races, writing names on balloons, picking confetti with a straw, filling glasses with water using hands, popping balloons tied to legs, sack races, peeling coconuts, making brooms from coconut leaves, threading needles, and spot dance. Among these, peeling coconuts and making brooms saw intense competition and enthusiastic audience participation. The spot dance competition featured ten teams who danced despite the heavy rain, and the event concluded with a lively baila.

Over 350 parishioners, young and old, took part in the festivities. YCS President Leon D’Souza welcomed the attendees, Secretary Sheldon Menezes delivered the vote of thanks, and Shalom D’Souza and Daryl Monteiro hosted the program.
