Mumbai: Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently shared fond memories of his college days at Hansraj College, Delhi University, where he was a junior to Shah Rukh Khan. Kashyap revealed that when SRK’s debut film Deewana (1992) released, students from Hansraj booked out an entire theatre to cheer for their senior.

Booking Out a Theatre for SRK

In an interview, Kashyap recalled the electrifying atmosphere inside Delhi’s Amba theatre during Deewana’s screening.

“Another memorable theatre experience I had was Shah Rukh Khan’s Deewana. He was my senior at college. Our entire college went to watch the movie. We booked out the Amba theatre, and all of us went. Shah Rukh’s entry in the film was set to the song Koi Na Koi Chahiye, and the entire crowd went mad. Nobody could even hear the song. We were so proud that our senior was in a big movie for the first time,” Kashyap said.

‘He Was Brilliant in College’

Kashyap also remembered SRK as an all-rounder during his university years.

“He was the hockey captain, he was the basketball captain, he was the sportsman of the year. He was the economics topper. He was incredible; he isn’t a superstar for nothing,” he said.

Admiration and Advice From SRK

The filmmaker added that SRK often advised him to stay away from making political statements publicly. After Pathaan’s success, Kashyap praised him as “the man with the strongest spine” in Bollywood, saying:

“I understand what he teaches: ‘Speak with your work, and don’t talk unnecessarily.’ He is who he is, and you can see why.”

Schoolmates Remember the Same SRK

Not just Kashyap, but SRK’s schoolmate Rahul Dev also echoed similar sentiments in a recent interview with Connect FM Canada.

“I don’t find it surprising that SRK has become a superstar. There will be no Shah Rukh Khan in the next 1000 years. He took part in various activities in school. He was first in football, hockey, cricket and every game.”
