A wave of panic spread among fans after rumours claimed legendary singer Asha Bhosle had passed away. Speaking to The Times of India, her son Anand Bhosle firmly clarified, “It’s untrue.”

The misinformation began when Facebook user Shabana Shaikh shared a garlanded photo of Asha, falsely declaring, “Famous singer Asha Bhosle passed away, a musical era ends (01 July 2025).” The post has since been deleted.

Recently, Asha was seen attending public events. Just last month, she graced the re-release screening of Rekha’s 1981 classic Umrao Jaan and performed “Dil Cheez Kya Hai” live. She was joined on stage by director Muzaffar Ali and actor Rekha.

Reflecting on her late husband, composer R D Burman, Asha had shared with PTI, “His music inspired him. He always experimented and encouraged me to try something new, even changing my voice. He helped me immensely, and I learned a lot from him.”

Asha Bhosle is celebrated as one of Hindi cinema’s most accomplished voices. Over her eight-decade career, she has recorded songs in numerous Indian languages and won countless accolades, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour.

Her music continues to resonate with generations. “Even after 50 years, people still love those songs. Everyone says they want fresh music, but they keep singing the old melodies,” she said.
