The excitement surrounding Malayalam cinema continues to grow, and with the much-awaited release of Mohanlal’s Empuraan, the fervor has reached Bengaluru. In a remarkable move, Good Shepherd College in the city has declared March 27 a holiday, allowing students to catch the film on the big screen.

The college management announced the holiday in a playful statement: “Lights, Camera, Holiday!” This decision comes as a tribute to Mohanlal, with the chairman of the college being a massive fan of the Malayalam superstar. To enhance the celebration, the institution has arranged a special early morning screening of Empuraan exclusively for students. The show, scheduled for 7 a.m. at Movietime Cinemas in YGR Mall, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, will be free for all students.

The announcement was made with great enthusiasm on social media, where the college expressed their pride, saying, “When passion and fandom unite, history is made! Our beloved MD, a devoted fan of Lalettan, has orchestrated a special screening of Empuraan to honor Mohanlal’s brilliance and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s visionary direction.”

This celebration of cinema as a cultural phenomenon is not new. In 2023, several companies in Bengaluru and Chennai granted employees a day off to watch Jailer, starring Rajinikanth. Similarly, during the 2016 release of Kabali, many educational institutions in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka declared a holiday to accommodate the frenzy surrounding Rajinikanth’s much-anticipated return to the big screen.
