Manoj Roy’s life took a remarkable turn after his unexpected encounter with the film industry, particularly with the making of the iconic movie PK. While the film gained notoriety for its controversial subject matter and witty comedy, Manoj’s personal journey from destitution to newfound success captured hearts across the nation.

Hailing from Bedeti, nestled in Assam’s Sonitpur district, Manoj’s early life was marked by hardship. Losing his mother shortly after birth, he was forced to abandon his education and resort to begging on the streets of Delhi to support himself and his ailing father.

However, fate intervened when Manoj caught the attention of filmmakers scouting for authentic talent. His role as a blind beggar in PK not only earned him recognition but also transformed his life in unimaginable ways.

Recalling his unexpected entry into the world of cinema, Manoj shared in an interview with Hindustan Times how he was approached by filmmakers while performing at Jantar Mantar, a popular gathering spot in Delhi for protests and performances. Initially skeptical, Manoj agreed to audition, driven more by the promise of a meal than any aspirations for stardom.

To his astonishment, Manoj was selected for a role in the film and whisked away to a five-star hotel, a stark contrast to his life on the streets. Immersed in the glamour of the film industry, he found himself rubbing shoulders with renowned actors like Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma.

Returning to his village with newfound confidence and financial stability, Manoj’s transformation was nothing short of extraordinary. Equipped with earnings from the film, he secured a job in a local shop, embraced modern technology with a Facebook account, and even found love, earning him the moniker “PK Honey Singh” among villagers.

Buoyed by the success of PK, Manoj harbors aspirations of furthering his acting career, particularly in regional cinema. With dreams of working in Assamese and Bengali films, he stands as a testament to the transformative power of opportunity and perseverance in the face of adversity. Manoj’s journey serves as a beacon of hope, inspiring others to believe in the possibility of a brighter tomorrow, no matter how humble their beginnings.
