Bollywood is buzzing with the success of Chhaava, a historical drama based on the bravery and sacrifice of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Starring Vicky Kaushal, the film has taken the box office by storm, crossing the Rs. 100 crore milestone in its debut weekend. The movie opened to a remarkable Rs. 31 crore on day one, followed by a 19.35% increase on Saturday, earning Rs. 37 crore. Sunday’s numbers soared further, with Chhaava grossing Rs. 48.5 crore.
However, like most films, the movie saw a dip in business on its first Monday. From Rs. 48.5 crore on Sunday, the film earned Rs. 24 crore, as per Sacnilk’s report. Despite this, Chhaava‘s net collection stands at a solid Rs. 140.50 crore after four days of theatrical release.
The movie’s strong start can be attributed to its compelling storyline, which focuses on Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s unwavering commitment to ‘swaraj’, and Vicky Kaushal’s powerful performance. Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava is based on the book of the same name and portrays key moments in the warrior’s life.
As per early estimates, the film’s overall occupancy rate on February 17, 2025, was 31.62%, with Pune leading the pack at 70.25%. Despite the Monday drop, Chhaava continues to perform strongly, with Mumbai and Hyderabad also showing significant footfall.
