Bengaluru: Renowned Kannada actor Bank Janardhan, beloved for his comic brilliance and memorable character roles, passed away in the early hours of April 14 at a private hospital in Bengaluru. He was 79 and had been battling prolonged illness, including multi-organ complications. He breathed his last around 2:30 am.
Janardhan, who acted in over 500 films, made an indelible mark with roles in classics like Shhh!, Tarle Nan Maga, Ganesh Subrahmanya, and Kaurava. His impeccable comic timing earned him widespread admiration across generations.
He was equally adored on the small screen, with standout performances in hit serials like Papa Pandu, Jokali, and Robo Family. A committed theatre artist, Janardhan was an active contributor to the Poshaka Kalavidha Sangha, participating in several acclaimed stage productions.
Born in 1948 in Sultanhalli (Sulthanpalya), Bengaluru, his journey from local theatre to silver screen stardom was marked by his unique voice, expressive face, and a heart full of passion for the craft. In 2023, he survived a heart attack, but his health had been steadily declining due to age-related issues.
His mortal remains will be kept for public homage at his Sulthanpalya residence until 5:30 pm today, allowing fans and well-wishers to pay their last respects to one of Karnataka’s most cherished entertainers.
