In response to the tragic Pahalgam terror strike, sources have confirmed that the upcoming film Abir Gulaal, featuring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, will not hit theatres in India. This decision comes amid a series of diplomatic moves by New Delhi targeting Islamabad — including halting the Indus Waters Treaty and revoking SAARC visa privileges.

Abir Gulaal, also starring Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor, was slated for release on May 9. The film would have marked Fawad Khan’s return to Indian cinema, following his earlier roles in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Khoobsurat, and Kapoor & Sons. However, following the 2016 Uri attack, a ban was imposed on Pakistani artists working in India, which continues to influence such decisions.

Following the deadly assault in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baisaran Valley, Khan issued a statement on Instagram condemning the act of terror. “Shocked and heartbroken by the horrific violence in Pahalgam. My prayers go out to the victims and their families in this incredibly difficult moment,” he posted.

Vaani Kapoor, his co-star in the film, also shared her sorrow. “I’ve been in disbelief since I saw the images from Pahalgam. Completely heartbroken. My condolences and prayers go out to the bereaved families,” she wrote.

The movie’s withdrawal reflects heightened national sentiment and increasing scrutiny of cross-border cultural collaborations in light of ongoing tensions.
