In these periods of social distancing, playing card games in India continues with people going online to do so. Card games have always been familiar in India, and Indians enjoy playing them on a routine basis.

Card games first arrived in India in the 16th century as a Central Asian game known as ganjifa. It was only played in royal Indian courts, with lavish card decks constructed of exquisite materials such as ivory and jeweled with gemstones.

People began to play cards made of wood or palm leaves as card games became more common among the general public. Thus, card games had a far broader appeal across the country.

Any household in India nowadays would be familiar with at least a few card games. Rummy, donkey, and a strategy-based solitaire card game are among the many card games played in various parts of the world.

Here are five of the most common card games played in India.

Twenty-eight

Twenty-eight, one of India’s most common card games today, is a complex trick-taking game played by four players in two teams. Each team communicates via codes to strategize and gain the most tricks for their team, played with 32 cards.

Solitaire

Solitaire is a card game that the British brought to India and popularized. It is intended to be played by a single individual. Moreover, the cards will follow a specific sequence with a face down. Afterward, the player flips them over and arranges them according to their foundations.

Due to its ease and single-player design, Solitaire was one of the first card games to be turned into a video game. Solitaire fans will now add the game as a free app to their smartphones and enjoy it anytime and wherever they want. Real players can now play it online in a competitive environment. You will also earn real money by defeating real players in competitive cash sports. Freecell Solitaire is one of the most popular card games.

Rummy

Rummy is one of the country’s oldest card sports, and it puts players’ analytical and statistical abilities to the test. It’s played with a standard 52-card deck plus one deck of written Jokers. If there are more than two teams, an extra deck is used (up to 6). It’s a pick-and-discard game in which players must make sets and sequences out of the cards they have in their possession.

Poker

In India, poker is one of the most common card games. In this game, players bet based on the estimated valuation of their hand and the opponent’s hand. Poker is considered a game of both chance and talent, needing players to guess the strength of their opponent’s hand, take calculated chances, and bluff.

Satte-pe-Satta

Satte-pe-Satta is one of the simplest card games to learn, with just one goal: to get rid of all the cards in your hand as quickly as possible. The game has laws that determine which card should be discarded based on the previous player’s discard. Players should plan ahead of time and discard cards to prevent their opponents from discarding cards.

Card games are becoming increasingly common in India as people seek more entertaining ways to pass the time and enjoy good entertainment. Card games have been a part of the Indian community and will continue to entertain people for decades, from games played at royal courts to games played in any home. The main difference is that most people already play them on their devices and can even earn money by playing card games like solitaire online.
