Rhea Chakraborty, once a rising star in Bollywood, experienced a complete upheaval in her life after the untimely demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who was her partner at the time. The tragic event spiraled into a media frenzy and legal storm, dragging Rhea into serious allegations, including aiding in Sushant’s alleged suicide.
In a candid conversation with CNBC TV18, Rhea reflected on the far-reaching emotional and professional consequences the 2020 incident had on her and her brother, Showik Chakraborty.
Rhea recalled their arrest by the Narcotics Control Bureau in a drug case connected to Sushant’s death. She revealed how both siblings faced a career blackout following the ordeal. “Our lives were shattered. I stopped receiving film offers. Showik, despite securing a 96 percentile in CAT and admission to a top business school, was taken into custody before his course could even begin,” she shared.
By the time he was released, he had already lost a crucial trimester—derailing his MBA journey and long-term aspirations.
She further explained how the cloud of controversy made it nearly impossible for Showik to find employment in the corporate world. “His name had become synonymous with media chaos. Recruiters stayed away,” Rhea said.
Despite the setbacks, the siblings turned to entrepreneurship to rebuild. They launched Chapter 2 Drip, a fashion label marking a fresh chapter in their lives.
