Director Anup Bhandari’s debut venture ‘Rangi Taranga’ is entering its 50th week this Friday. The film which starred a bunch of newcomers was a sleeper hit upon release. The film is still running at Inox Mantri and will be one of the very few Kannada films to run for 50 weeks. Taking on ‘Baahubali’ and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, the film made Sandalwood proud with its excellent performance.
Starring Nirup Bhandari, Avantika Shetty, Radhika Chethan and Saikumar in the lead roles, the film was a thriller which won rave reviews. It released on July 3, 2015. Upon release, the film struggled as they were not given much screens. However, the film’s excellent word of mouth publicity helped the film to attract more audience.
The film has created many records in Sandalwood. It is the highest grossing Kannada film in overseas. The film performed extremely well in USA. It is also the highest grossing film in Rest of India areas (except Karnataka). The film showed that a good content and good distributed Kannada film can do wonders worldwide.
Made on a small budget by H K Prakash under Sri Devi Entertainers banner, the film was also shortlisted in 305 films for Oscar nominations. However, it could not make into the Top 5. The film will re-release in additional 25 screens in Karnataka on July 1. It will also have International Cut Worldwide re-release (10 mins shorter and new scenes added) on July 1.
Anup Bhandari will announce the title of his next venture on July 3. The film will star his brother Nirup Bhandari in the lead role.
