Mumbai: Actor Harshvardhan Rane, best known for his hit Sanam Teri Kasam, returned to theatres this Diwali with ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’, co-starring Sonam Bajwa. Despite clashing with Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s Thamma, the film is holding well at the box office, showing strong audience traction.
Box office performance
The film opened with an impressive first-day collection of Rs 9 crore, a figure comparable to the initial performance of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. On the second day, collections saw a slight drop, earning Rs 7.50 crore, bringing the total domestic collection to Rs 16.50 crore according to early estimates by Sacnilk.
Industry experts note that the numbers are commendable considering screen dominance by Thamma, which is getting roughly three times more shows than Ek Deewaniyat. Despite this limitation, the film’s 15% drop on day two indicates a solid hold, especially for a mid-budget romantic drama.
Regional performance and audience reception
The film has performed particularly well in East Punjab and West Bengal, regions not usually known for large collections for films of this scale. Analysts suggest that while the Diwali holiday boost helped initial numbers, the sustained performance indicates positive word of mouth driving audience interest.
With more screens and continued positive reception, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat could see further growth over the weekend, potentially making it Rane’s highest-grossing film in initial theatrical release, surpassing Sanam Teri Kasam, which eventually crossed Rs 40 crore after a re-release.
Meanwhile, Thamma has raked in Rs 42 crore in two days, dominating the domestic box office. Yet, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’s performance shows that even smaller films can achieve strong returns with the right audience connect and festive timing.
