The Marvel Cinematic Universe is thundering with the fall of the hammer. Disney+ has abruptly canceled a major Marvel series, which is a surprising turn of events motivated by financial concerns. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’s star, Tatiana Maslany, recently broke some bad news to her fans by saying she wasn’t sure if the show would get a second season. With 390 million minutes of viewing time and a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, She-Hulk Season 1 was a moderate success. Although viewers of this lighthearted, enjoyable binge-watch had hoped for a possible return with season 2, that is sadly no longer the case.
“Is there optimism for a season 2?” was the question posed to Maslany when she appeared on NerdIncorrect’s Twitch gameshow Codenames Live. “I don’t think so,” the celebrity declared. “I think we blew our budget,” the actress continued, “and Disney was like, ‘No thanks!'”
When Jessica Gao, the show’s head writer, stated that she had ideas for more seasons, rumors about future shows quickly spread. Encouraged by the finale’s open-ended nature, fans even conjectured about possible plots for the upcoming season. The protagonist of the show, though, seemed certain that the series would not be revived, defying these expectations.
For those unfamiliar, She-Hulk Season 1 boasted one of the highest budgets among Disney+ MCU series, reaching a total of $225 million. Despite the considerable hype and budget, the show’s performance was deemed satisfactory. Last August, reports surfaced about Marvel’s intentions to initiate the development of Season 2 after the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Nevertheless, Maslany’s remarks imply that Marvel currently has no immediate plans to revive the show. However, fans are still waiting for an official confirmation from the streamer or makers.
