Indian cinema basked in international glory as Neeraj Ghaywan’s emotional drama Homebound premiered at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section. The only Indian feature to be showcased at the 2025 edition, the film received an overwhelming 9-minute standing ovation, marking a proud milestone for the country’s cinematic landscape.

Starring Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, and Vishal Jethwa, the film left audiences deeply moved. The heartfelt response brought tears, hugs, and emotional applause from the team. Ishaan Khatter, visibly elated, shared a warm embrace with co-star Vishal Jethwa as cheers filled the auditorium.

Director Neeraj Ghaywan soon joined in, followed by an emotional group hug with Janhvi Kapoor, radiating the unity and spirit behind the film. Watching from behind, producer Karan Johar was spotted wiping away tears, overwhelmed by the recognition the film received.

Also seen in the crowd were Janhvi’s sister Khushi Kapoor and her partner Shikhar Pahariya, applauding with pride as shouts of “Bravo!” echoed throughout the hall.

Homebound tells the poignant tale of two childhood friends from a North Indian village, bound by dreams of becoming police officers. Their pursuit of dignity and purpose forms the emotional core of this narrative, resonating with universal themes of friendship, struggle, and hope.
