We often imagine an actor’s life as one of strict routines and disciplined diets to maintain a lean physique. While that’s partly true, even Bollywood stars have their indulgent moments. Here’s a delightful revelation: legendary actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, and Aamir Khan have been loyal patrons of Naturals Ice Cream in Juhu since it opened in 1989. What started as Amitabh Bachchan’s local ice cream spot has grown into a Rs 300 crore business empire.
The late Raghunandan Srinivas Kamath, the visionary founder of Naturals, shared his remarkable journey with The Telegraph. In the 1980s, the concept of an ice cream parlour wasn’t widespread, so Kamath began his career with a humble pav-baji stall. Later, he joined his brother’s eatery, “Gokul Refreshment,” where the idea of a unique ice cream parlour was born—a place that served ice creams made with no artificial flavours, just fresh, natural ingredients.
Despite financial hurdles, Kamath invested Rs 3.5 lakh to bring his dream to life, ensuring quality with ingredients like fresh milk, fruits, and sugar. What began with just 12 flavours, including tender coconut, jackfruit, and kala jamun, has expanded to over 20 varieties. The tender coconut flavour, still a favourite, has earned global recognition.
Kamath’s reliance on word-of-mouth advertising paid off, with film stars like Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan making the parlour their go-to. Kamath passed away in 2024, but his legacy lives on as Naturals continues to serve as India’s most beloved ice cream brand.
