In Kawaban village, West Tripura, a family’s entrepreneurial spirit turned a financial struggle into a thriving ice-cream business. Run by a determined woman, her husband, and father, “Tripti” serves popsicles, Cornetto-style cones, and ice-cream bars to local and town customers.
A Modest Start
In 2023, the family launched their venture with an INR 8 lakh loan. Inspired by self-help group discussions, they leveraged the father’s expertise in ice-cream making and the practicality of producing from home. Their first batch sold for INR 3,500 at a local fair. Over time, sales soared, allowing the husband to leave his masonry job and join full-time.
The Present
Now operating four carts, the family generates daily sales of INR 4,500 per cart and has repaid their initial loan within 1.5 years. Their young daughter even contributes, helping with packaging and garnishing products.
Future Plans
To grow, the family aims to:
- Set up a factory near the main road to boost production and reduce noise complaints from neighbors.
- Diversify offerings, such as ice sheets for fish vendors, ensuring income during winter months when ice-cream demand dips.
This family’s journey exemplifies resilience and ambition, with dreams of scaling their business while involving loved ones at every step.
