Mumbai: Actor Imran Khan is officially returning to the big screen after a decade-long hiatus, with a cameo appearance in Happy Patel, the directorial debut of comedian-actor Vir Das. The announcement video released by the makers has ended months of speculation surrounding Imran’s comeback, offering fans a brief but impactful glimpse of the actor in the quirky spy drama.
Imran Khan returns after 10 years
Imran, who was last seen in the 2015 film Katti Batti, had stepped away from acting for personal and professional reasons. His unexpected appearance in the Happy Patel announcement reel—sporting long hair and a serious expression—has sparked excitement across social media. Fans immediately began sharing screengrabs of the cameo and celebrating the actor’s return.
The film marks Imran’s first association with Aamir Khan Productions since Delhi Belly (2011), where he played the lead. Many fans drew parallels between the tones of both films, calling the teaser “Delhi Belly vibes.”
Fan reactions pour in
Social media platforms were abuzz as viewers expressed their enthusiasm about seeing Imran back on screen. One fan wrote that it was refreshing to see him choose a fun film instead of aiming for a “typical male lead loverboy comeback.” Another commented simply, “Good to see he is back.”
Several posts highlighted the nostalgic reunion between Vir Das and Aamir Khan’s banner, with one user calling it “the best teaser in a long time.” Vir Das himself joined the humour, jokingly responding to a fan’s post with, “Wait… Imran is in this movie??”
Vir Das turns director
Happy Patel marks Vir Das’ first outing as a director. The film introduces a quirky spy universe, with Vir playing the lead alongside Mona Singh. A short teaser at the end of the announcement video showcases multiple looks of Vir’s character, hinting at a comedic-action narrative.
The project brings Vir Das and Aamir Khan Productions together again after their successful collaboration in Delhi Belly. With the production house known for backing unconventional cinema, Happy Patel is expected to bring a fresh blend of humour, action, and eccentric storytelling.
Imran Khan’s career so far
Imran Khan made his acting debut with the 2007 blockbuster Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, instantly becoming a youth favourite. However, despite appearing in films like I Hate Luv Storys, Break Ke Baad, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, and Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara, he struggled to replicate his early box office success and eventually stepped away from the industry.
His cameo in Happy Patel signals a soft re-entry into Bollywood, one that fans hope will lead to more significant roles in the future.
Release
Produced by Aamir Khan Productions and directed by Vir Das, Happy Patel features Vir Das and Mona Singh in the lead. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on 16 January 2026.
