Veteran actor Kamal Haasan is receiving strong support online after a light-hearted comment he made about co-star Trisha Krishnan at a promotional event for Thug Life went viral and sparked mixed reactions.
During the event, Trisha was asked about her favorite food and responded with: “I like eating them all, but I like boiled banana more. What’s it called?” referring to pazham pori, a popular banana fritter. Kamal Haasan, in a playful tone, replied, “She doesn’t know the name but likes putting it in her mouth,” which made Trisha laugh. He gently patted her knee, clearly suggesting it was all in jest.
The moment, however, led to an online divide. While some users criticized the comment, suggesting it had inappropriate undertones, others firmly defended Kamal Haasan, calling the remark harmless banter.
One fan wrote, “This is a jovial line we hear from elders at home — there’s nothing vulgar about it.” Another added, “People are so quick to get offended. He was clearly joking, and Trisha herself laughed.”
A Tamil user commented, “I’m not even a Kamal fan, but I don’t think there was any double meaning. We tease friends like this all the time.”
Directed by Mani Ratnam, Thug Life features a star-studded ensemble and is set to release on June 5, 2025. This film marks a grand reunion of Kamal and Ratnam nearly 38 years after Nayakan.
