Chennai: The Cyber Crime Wing of the Tamil Nadu Police has arrested six individuals in connection with the illegal circulation of leaked content from Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay. Authorities have issued a stern warning against sharing or accessing pirated material from the film.

The arrests come after the film’s production team filed a formal complaint, triggering a detailed investigation into the leak of unreleased footage ahead of its theatrical release.

Cyber Crime crackdown intensifies

According to the film’s legal counsel, Advocate Vijayan Subramanian, six people have already been taken into custody for their alleged involvement in circulating the leaked scenes online.

He cautioned that anyone found downloading, forwarding, uploading or storing the leaked content could face immediate criminal prosecution. Authorities are using digital tracking tools to trace individuals involved in the piracy network.

The Cyber Crime Wing has also reportedly identified at least 21 individuals linked to the illegal distribution chain, with further action likely in the coming days.

Complaint filed by production team

The complaint was lodged by R Udayakumar, Production Controller of KVN Productions, who urged authorities to take swift action against those responsible for the leak.

The production house highlighted the significant financial investment in the film, stating that it involves several hundred crores and carries substantial theatrical, satellite and OTT value.

Officials have been requested to remove leaked footage from digital platforms, preserve evidence and confiscate devices such as mobile phones, laptops and storage systems used in the offence.

Efforts to trace source of leak

Cyber forensic teams have been deployed to identify the origin of the leak and map the entire distribution network. Investigators are focusing on tracking both primary sources and intermediaries who may have contributed to the spread of the content.

Authorities are also working to ensure that all copies of the leaked footage are taken down from social media platforms and other digital channels.

Industry unites against piracy

The leak has drawn widespread condemnation from across the film industry. Prominent actors including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Chiranjeevi, Suriya and Vijay Deverakonda have voiced support for the makers and demanded strict action against those responsible.

Film industry stakeholders emphasised that piracy not only causes financial losses but also undermines the creative efforts of artists and technicians.

Strong warning to the public

Authorities have reiterated that accessing or sharing pirated content is a punishable offence under Indian law. With advanced cyber tracking methods in place, officials warned that offenders will be identified and prosecuted without exception.
