Chennai: The makers of Jana Nayagan have reportedly made a significant change to the film’s opening title slate following C. Joseph Vijay’s transition from cinema to politics.
According to media reports, the film will introduce Vijay as “The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C Joseph Vijay”, reflecting his current political position rather than the “Thalapathy” title by which he was known during the film’s production.
However, the makers have not officially confirmed the reported title change.
Title slate reportedly updated
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the opening credits of Jana Nayagan have been modified to acknowledge Vijay’s position as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
The development comes after the actor stepped away from films to pursue a full-time political career. Jana Nayagan is expected to be his final appearance on the big screen.
UK release ahead of India
The film is scheduled to release in the United Kingdom on July 24, while the India release date is yet to be officially announced.
Reports suggest that the UK version will be screened without the modifications ordered by the Central Board of Film Certification for the Indian release.
The CBFC has granted the film an A certificate after directing the makers to implement multiple changes.
CBFC orders several modifications
According to reports, the CBFC instructed the makers to make around 12 modifications before the film’s release in India.
Among the reported changes is the removal of references to TVK, which also serves as the abbreviation of Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
The censor certificate reportedly states that a dialogue referring to “Ambedkar sattam… TVK sattam” was modified by removing the mention of TVK from both the audio and visuals.
Other reported changes include:
- Removal of visuals showing the Indian flag falling on the ground.
- Muting of certain religious references and objectionable words.
- Deletion of a reference to “New India”.
- Modification of a hanging sequence and a visual involving a district collector’s office badge.
- Removal or muting of certain dialogues and body-related references.
- Deletion of a scene involving a child being burned.
- Changing the character name “Sheela Rani” and muting the word “Siluvaila”.
Star cast and runtime
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj and Narain.
The film has a reported runtime of 3 hours and 3 minutes.
Conclusion
With Vijay now serving as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, Jana Nayagan appears set to reflect his political journey even before the story begins. While the reported title slate change has generated significant interest, audiences await official confirmation from the filmmakers ahead of the film’s India release.
