Veteran Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan made waves earlier this week during the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament when she directed a pointed comment towards Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, sparking headlines and subsequent social media buzz.

However, a video circulating online now captures Bachchan offering a heartfelt apology to her fellow members of the House for her recent outburst, garnering attention once again.

In her farewell address, Bachchan attributed her occasional flashes of temper to her inherent nature but expressed regret if her actions had caused any offense. “People often question my tendency to become irate. It’s just who I am, I can’t change that. If I’ve overstepped or become personal in any way, I sincerely apologize,” she stated with folded hands.

For context, Bachchan’s frustration surfaced during Monday’s Rajya Sabha session when a question was overlooked during Question Hour, prompting Congress MP Deepender Hooda to raise objections. Bachchan voiced her dissatisfaction, remarking, “We’re not school children,” directed at Chairman Dhankhar.

In a bid to diffuse tensions, Dhankhar later clarified that the skipped question would be addressed after the current one was dealt with. “We will handle it in a composed manner and seek resolution. Jaya Bachchan ji is a highly esteemed member, and her concerns are significant to me,” he affirmed.

This year, sixty-eight Rajya Sabha members, including nine Union ministers, are set to complete their tenures. Notable among them are figures like Manmohan Singh, Bhupendra Yadav, and Jaya Bachchan. With Uttar Pradesh leading in vacancies, followed by Maharashtra, Bihar, and other states, the impending reshuffle is poised to reshape the dynamics of the Upper House. Notably, elections have been announced for three seats in Delhi and one in Sikkim.
