After a hiatus since Salaam Venky (2022), 90s superstar Kajol has made a triumphant return to cinemas with Maa, which hit theatres on June 27. While she kept her audience engaged through OTT hits like Lust Stories 2 and Do Patti, fans were eager to see her back on the big screen.

Directed by Vishal Furia, Maa exceeded early box office predictions of ₹3.50–₹4.50 crore by collecting ₹4.65 crore on day one, according to sacnilk.com. The positive buzz continued as Saturday saw a 29% jump, bringing in ₹6 crore. On Sunday, early estimates indicated a further rise, with collections reaching ₹6.75 crore. The debut weekend tally stood at ₹17.40 crore, positioning the film to cross the ₹20 crore mark soon.

Occupancy improved steadily, from 10.71% on Sunday morning to 46.68% in the evening shows, although night screenings dipped slightly to 31.71%.

TOI rated the film 3 out of 5, praising Kajol’s gripping portrayal of a mother who transforms into Goddess Kali to defeat a deadly curse. Ronit Roy and young actors Kherin Sharma and Rupkatha Chakraborty were also commended for their performances.

Expressing her excitement, Kajol shared, “I am very proud of this film. I never imagined doing horror, but as a mythology lover, this story felt special. Maa ki kasam, we’ve made a good film.”
