Kangana Ranaut, who takes on the role of Indira Gandhi in her upcoming film Emergency, shared her surprising conclusions about the former prime minister after extensive research. Initially, she believed Gandhi to be a powerful leader, but her findings led her to describe her as “fragile” and “uncertain,” emphasizing how her need for control stemmed from her vulnerability.
Ranaut, who directed and produced the film, revealed her newfound empathy for Gandhi, admitting that she previously misunderstood her strength. She also highlighted Gandhi’s reliance on key figures, such as her son, Sanjay Gandhi, which contributed to her emotional instability.
In a candid interview, Ranaut claimed there isn’t a director in the industry she feels worthy of collaborating with, citing a lack of “quality” in current filmmakers. Her bold statement further extended to her interactions with Priyanka Gandhi, who praised her appearance but showed little interest in the film itself.
Despite the hurdles her movie faced, including delays over a censor certificate and a critical revision process, Ranaut expressed that Emergency is a genuine portrayal of a vital moment in history. With a star-studded cast, including Anupam Kher and Shreyas Talpade, the film is finally set to release on January 17.
