Mumbai: Actor and politician Kangana Ranaut has clarified that there is no personal feud between her and actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh, years after their highly publicised exchange during the farmers’ protest movement. Speaking in a recent interview, Kangana said the disagreement stemmed from differing opinions on a public issue rather than any personal hostility between the two artists.
Her remarks come at a time when both stars have new films in the spotlight. Kangana’s co-produced film Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata and Diljit’s Main Vaapas Aaunga were released on June 12, renewing public interest in their past controversy.
Kangana says differences were ideological
During the interview, Kangana explained that the conflict between her and Diljit was rooted in opposing views regarding the farmers’ protests that took place in 2020 and 2021. According to her, the disagreement should not be interpreted as a personal rivalry.
She stated that the two had different perspectives on a particular event and that this difference of opinion led to the public exchange. Kangana further noted that she has nothing against Diljit personally and revealed that they have never met each other in real life despite being prominent figures in the entertainment industry.
When asked whether she would be open to meeting Diljit in the future, Kangana responded positively, suggesting there was no reason why such a meeting could not happen.
Revisiting the 2020 controversy
The public clash between Kangana and Diljit began during the nationwide farmers’ protests against the Centre’s farm laws. Kangana had shared a photograph of an elderly woman participating in the protest and incorrectly identified her as a woman associated with the Shaheen Bagh anti-CAA demonstrations.
Her remarks drew criticism from many quarters, including Diljit, who challenged the claim and shared information identifying the woman as Mahinder Kaur, a farmer from Punjab. What followed was a heated exchange on social media, with both celebrities defending their positions.
The online argument quickly became one of the most discussed celebrity-political debates of that period. While Kangana criticised Diljit during the exchange, Diljit defended the dignity and participation of women involved in the farmers’ movement.
The controversy remained a major talking point for months and contributed to the perception that the two stars were personal rivals. Kangana’s latest comments, however, suggest that she does not view the episode in that light.
Comments come amid fresh discussions
Kangana’s clarification also arrives shortly after she commented on Diljit’s professional collaboration with Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3. The film generated controversy because of restrictions on Pakistani artists in India and heightened sensitivities following recent security concerns.
In previous interviews, Kangana questioned some of Diljit’s choices and spoke about the importance of nation-building and shared national sentiment. These comments reignited debate among fans and social media users about whether tensions still existed between the two performers.
By stating that there is no personal animosity, Kangana appears to be drawing a distinction between ideological disagreements and personal relationships.
New films place both stars in focus
Both actors are currently associated with projects that have attracted significant attention.
Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, co-produced by Kangana, is set against the backdrop of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The film focuses on the experiences of doctors, nurses and hospital staff inside Cama Hospital during the crisis, highlighting their courage and resilience.
Meanwhile, Main Vaapas Aaunga features Diljit in a story centred on memory, identity and Partition-era emotions. The film follows a 95-year-old man whose life experiences unfold through recollections shared with younger generations.
Conclusion
Kangana Ranaut’s latest remarks indicate an effort to separate political and ideological disagreements from personal relationships. While her exchange with Diljit Dosanjh during the farmers’ protests became one of the most talked-about celebrity controversies in recent years, she now maintains that there was never any personal feud between them. With both stars currently promoting new films, her comments may help shift attention from past disputes to their respective creative work.
