Celebrated filmmaker Karan Johar has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the Hindi film industry, asserting that he will never walk away from Bollywood. In a candid chat with podcaster Raj Shamani, Johar expressed his deep emotional and professional connection to the industry, describing it as the place that shaped his identity and career.
When asked if he might ever consider stepping away, Johar firmly replied, “Absolutely not. I want to breathe my last while directing a film. Ideally, I’d like to pass away on a movie set.”
Reflecting on life’s toughest moments, he recalled the grief of losing his father at age 21. That tragedy, he said, was so profound that everything else—including criticism and pressure—feels insignificant in comparison. He admitted the fear of failure still exists, but believes experiencing the worst often strips that fear of its power.
Johar also had a message for critics of the film fraternity. “This industry has given me everything—my reputation, my purpose, my very heartbeat. Where else can you dance, sing, cry, and laugh, and still call it a job?” he asked. He labelled Bollywood as the most magical space to work in, noting that even its harshest detractors are often unknowingly nurtured by the same ecosystem they critique.
The Dharma Productions founder has several exciting projects lined up for 2025, though his next directorial venture remains under wraps.
