Actor Emraan Hashmi has emotionally revisited the most harrowing chapter of his life — the moment his then 3-year-old son, Ayaan, was diagnosed with Wilms’ Tumour, a rare form of kidney cancer affecting young children.

Speaking to Ranveer Allahbadia on his podcast, Emraan recalled the fateful afternoon in January 2014. “We were at Taj Lands End, enjoying brunch, when Ayaan excused himself. Moments later, we saw blood in his urine. That was the first terrifying sign,” he shared.

What started as a joyful family outing turned into a nightmare. “Within three hours, we were sitting in a doctor’s clinic. By evening, we were told it was cancer. Surgery was scheduled for the next day, followed by chemotherapy,” Emraan said, describing the ordeal as a life-altering 12 hours.

Ayaan was diagnosed just one month before his fourth birthday. Emraan admitted that no symptoms had appeared before that day. The diagnosis turned their lives upside down, forcing the actor to take a break from his career to be by his son’s side.

Ayaan battled cancer for five years, finally recovering in 2019 — a moment of immense relief for the family.

On the work front, Emraan Hashmi is set to return to the big screen with “Ground Zero”, releasing April 25.
