Renowned Malayalam actor Ajith Vijayan, known for his performances in 5 Sundarikal and Bangalore Days, passed away on Sunday in Kochi at the age of 57. Alongside his cinematic work, Ajith was also a prominent figure in various television serials. He hailed from Tripunithura’s Kannankulangara in Ernakulam district.

Ajith was born into a family with deep classical arts roots. He was the grandson of celebrated Kathakali artist Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair and Mohiniyattam dancer Kalamandalam Kalyanikutty Amma. His father, CK Vijayan, was a noted figure, and his mother, Kala Vijayan, was also a renowned Mohiniyattam dancer. Ajith’s uncle, Kalasala Babu, was a veteran actor, making him a part of a celebrated lineage in the Malayalam film and arts community.

Ajith rose to fame for his portrayal of Ambiswamy in director Amal Neerad’s Kullante Bharya, a segment from the 2013 anthology 5 Sundarikal. His portrayal of a judgmental elderly neighbour in the story earned him wide recognition and praise. He also garnered appreciation for his role as an astrologer in the 2014 hit Bangalore Days. His other notable films include Oru Indian Pranayakadha (2013) and Amar Akbar Anthony (2015).

Ajith leaves behind his wife Dhanya and their daughters Gayathri and Gauri. His contributions to the Malayalam film industry will be cherished by many.
