Malayalam actor and veteran production controller Kannan Pattambi passed away late on Sunday night at the age of 62. He died at around 11.40 pm on January 4 while undergoing treatment for a kidney-related ailment at a private hospital in Kozhikode.
The news of his demise was confirmed by his elder brother, noted filmmaker and actor Major Ravi, through a heartfelt Facebook post written in Malayalam.
Major Ravi confirms demise, funeral today
In his post, Major Ravi described the loss of his younger brother as deeply painful. Sharing a photograph of Kannan Pattambi, he wrote that his brother passed away at 11.41 pm and that the funeral would be held at their residence in Pattambi’s Njangattiri on Monday at 4 pm. He concluded the message with a prayerful note, paying tribute to his brother’s life and journey.
The announcement triggered an outpouring of condolences from members of the Malayalam film fraternity, friends and admirers, who remembered Kannan as a quiet yet dependable presence behind the scenes.
Long association with Malayalam cinema
Kannan Pattambi was associated with the Malayalam film industry for several decades, working both as a production controller and as an actor. Known for his organisational skills and calm demeanour on film sets, he played a crucial role in managing large-scale productions.
He collaborated on several projects produced or directed by Major Ravi, including Mission 90 Days, a film inspired by Major Ravi’s personal experiences during the investigation into the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
Worked on landmark Mohanlal films
Kannan Pattambi was involved in multiple films starring Mohanlal, including Pulimurugan, which became the first Malayalam film to cross the ₹100 crore mark at the box office.
His filmography spans 23 Malayalam films, notable among them 12th Man, Karam Yodha, Kurukshetra, Black and Vettam. He also served as production controller for Kandahar, which featured Mohanlal and Amitabh Bachchan.
