One of the joys—and puzzles—of watching an Anurag Basu film is surrendering to his unique way of storytelling. Metro In Dino perfectly captures the filmmaker’s vibrant, chaotic imagination, where music doesn’t just underscore scenes—it is the narrative.
An anthology linked by the many shades of love, the film follows characters who rediscover affection, question passion, and stumble into romance. The screenplay meanders at first, introducing this ensemble, but soon settles into a warm, engaging rhythm.
Pankaj Tripathi stands out with impeccable comic timing as an insecure husband caught cheating, matched brilliantly by Konkona Sen Sharma. Neena Gupta and Anupam Kher’s storyline is tender and thought-provoking. Fatima Sana Shaikh and Ali Fazal bring honesty to their struggles, while Sara Ali Khan and Aditya Roy Kapur share appealing chemistry.
While the second half sometimes loses focus amid subplots and occasional melodrama, the film regains footing in its heartfelt conclusion.
But the true star is Pritam’s music. Although the songs didn’t top charts before release, they elevate every scene. Lyricists Sandeep Srivastava, Mayur Puri, and others craft lyrics that linger long after the credits.
Metro In Dino is a spiritual successor to Life…In A Metro—messy, musical, and very human. Imperfect yet sincere, it celebrates modern love’s unpredictability. Surrender to Basu’s vision, and you’ll leave with your heart brimming with songs and hope.
