The love charger is back, and he is more powerful than ever before. He fights ghosts, tuskers gone amok, and in between he also has time to battle social evils, in no particular order. The second installment of MSG–The Messenger is now running in theatres, and here’s a warning in public interest: You’ll be blown away by the supernatural powers of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insaan. That is, only if you’re a die-hard fan.
Babaji, as the spiritual guru is called by his followers, makes his grand entry through rings of fire that lead him to two kids trapped in a burning house. After dangling for a few seconds mid-air, he saves the bewildered children who probably didn’t know about the existence of CGI. During this scene, stones are crushed, rears are kicked and elephants are tossed in the air. Babaji leads to a change of heart in indigenous people when he lifts a badly animated elephant on his palm.
Later, we see them dancing in Bollywood style, but Guruji stops them as he wants them to bathe first. So much in the name of civilisation! However, the battle is not even half won yet as there are 16 clans of indigenous people living in the same area and their head Ajgar is a tough nut. By this time, we have witnessed two songs in Guruji’s own voice, and the 60-something lady sitting beside me has danced twice. She doesn’t have any qualms in doing so, why? Because everybody else is dancing inside the hall.
It was similar to the film’s first public screening in Gurgaon on Wednesday where more than 50,000 people danced on Guruji’s beats.
Babaji travels in luxury cars with a golden heart embossed on them. He is keen sportsman and does everything in his capacity to showcase his healthy lifestyle. That’s needed though because the sermons on abstaining from alcohol, non-vegetarian food and narcotics follow every sequence. In addition to these, he also comes in his followers’ dreams and talks them out of their problems. It’s 80 minutes into the film and everybody is clapping in the theatre. But, what else will you do on hearing a dialogue like this: “Kisi ki jaan bachaane ke liye sirf taaqat ki nahi jigre ki zaroorat bhi hoti hai (To save somebody’s life, you don’t only need strength, but also guts).”
The theatre temperature is rising. Followers are chanting, “Dhan dhan satguru tera hi aasra,” the slogan of Dera Sacha Sauda, a sect headed by Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. Meanwhile, some corrupt politicians, valorous army men and common social workers have got involved in the struggle to eliminate the barbaric ‘adivasis’ from the face of the earth. But, none of them is going to succeed because of one man’s noble intention. By the way, that man is also the singer, editor, composer, writer and everything else of the film.
Very soon, Babaji becomes the ‘aadiguru’ (the original teacher) the locals were waiting for all these years. And they adopted him as one because, “Jo aadmi babbar sher ki tarah hota hai, wo hi humara aadiguru hai (Only he who is like a roaring lion can be our teacher).” By that logic, Danny or Sunny Deol would have become their ‘aadigurus’ long time ago. Later, we learn that GRRS actually belongs to the bloodline of Maharana Pratap.
All is well that ends well, so he still has to accomplish the mammoth task of pleasing everybody and bringing everyone on the same platform. For that he cuts an unruly woman to size who candidly says, “Bachne naa paye koi bhi khachchar, bali denge chakh chakh kar.” This time the thunderous applause is deafening.
From tearing a spear into two by a flick of his fingers to playing the ‘desi’ Mountain (Game Of Thrones!), Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji performs a lot of unbelievable stunts in this blatant self promotion. MSG 2 makes Alif Laila and Gunda look like classics. And, they say it’s based on true events. God save those who are planning to watch MSG 2. This sequel is beyond rating.
