Veteran actor Nagarjuna, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film ‘Kuberaa’ alongside Dhanush and Rashmika Mandanna, recently shared his perspective on the ongoing Bollywood vs South Indian cinema debate.
In a conversation with Galatta Plus, Nagarjuna dismissed claims that Bollywood is fading in comparison to the rising popularity of southern film industries. “These narratives are temporary,” he said, explaining that no industry stays on top forever. Drawing parallels from his own experience, the Telugu superstar noted, “The Telugu industry has gone through down phases at least four times in my career. It happens in cycles. I feel another dip might come soon.”
When asked about producer Naga Vamsi’s comment predicting a “bloodbath” in Tollywood due to changing audience preferences, Nagarjuna disagreed but acknowledged the importance of adapting. “Audience tastes are evolving. Films like ‘Tourist Family’ in Tamil, ‘Court’ in Telugu, and OTT content like ‘Anaganaga’ are doing really well,” he noted.
According to the actor, the key to survival lies in constant reinvention. He pointed out that Bollywood’s slump was a result of cumulative issues and that a revival is inevitable. “It’s like a rough patch for an actor or director. It won’t last. Hindi cinema will bounce back soon,” he said.
On the professional front, Nagarjuna will next be seen in ‘Kuberaa’, releasing on June 20, and also has a role in Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’, which includes appearances by Aamir Khan, Upendra Rao, and Pooja Hegde.
