Nita Ambani, chairperson and founder of the Reliance Foundation, has addressed the backlash surrounding the extravagant wedding celebrations of her son, Anant Ambani, and Radhika Merchant. While the event garnered worldwide attention and admiration, it also faced criticism for its opulence. In an interview with Haslinda Amin on Bloomberg Television, Nita Ambani responded to the criticism and shared her perspective.
When questioned about the accusations of extravagance, Nita Ambani explained, “Every parent wants to do their best for their children’s wedding. And that’s what we did in all this.” She also expressed pride in the celebration, saying, “I think it was a made-in-India brand that came out.” For her, the wedding was not just about grandeur but also about highlighting Indian traditions, heritage, and culture. “I am happy that I was able to bring our Indian culture to the center stage,” she added.
The conversation then turned to a more personal moment. Nita Ambani recalled her youngest son Anant’s struggles with obesity and revealed an emotional moment before the wedding ceremony. Anant shared his feelings with her as he prepared to step onto the stage, making it an unforgettable and deeply meaningful experience for his mother.
Despite the criticism, Nita Ambani’s comments emphasize the family’s commitment to honoring tradition while celebrating a significant milestone in their son’s life.
