OG maintains momentum in first week

They Call Him OG, directed by Sujeeth and starring Pawan Kalyan, has continued its strong run at the Indian box office. Released in theatres on 25 September, with paid premieres on 24 September, the film has surpassed the ₹160 crore mark within just seven days, according to trade tracker Sacnilk.

The makers organised a success meet in Hyderabad on Thursday, where Pawan Kalyan made an appearance alongside his co-stars. The actor, who plays a gangster named Ojas Gambheera in the film, has been widely praised for his performance.

Day-wise box office collections

According to Sacnilk, OG collected ₹5.96 crore on its seventh day. While the weekday numbers saw a minor dip compared to the opening weekend, the film has largely sustained momentum, bolstered by strong word-of-mouth reviews and fan enthusiasm.

The film opened with an impressive ₹21 crore, followed by a record-breaking Thursday, when it amassed ₹63 crore—its highest single-day haul so far. By the end of day six, the film had earned ₹160.81 crore in India, cementing its position as one of the biggest openers of the year.

Industry experts note that the film is performing well in both Telugu-speaking regions and other markets, despite competition from new releases.

About the film

OG tells the story of Ojas Gambheera (Pawan Kalyan), a samurai who arrives in India during the Second World War and eventually becomes the right-hand man of Satya Dada (Prakash Raj). After an unforeseen incident, Ojas retreats into a peaceful life with Kanmani (Priyanka Mohan) and their daughter Tara, until circumstances force him to pick up his katana once again.

The film’s action sequences, stylised visuals, and background score have been highlighted as major crowd-pullers. The ending teases a sequel, raising anticipation for an expanded storyline in future instalments.

Success meet highlights

At the success meet in Hyderabad, actress Sriya Reddy praised her co-star, saying, “Pawan Kalyan sir encourages women. As a woman, I feel we’re not supported by men as much as we deserve. Then comes someone like Pawan sir… He’s not insecure about me taking centre stage in a scene. I am in awe of him.”

The event was attended by the film’s cast and crew, who credited the audience for making the film a blockbuster in its opening week.

Conclusion

With ₹160 crore already in the bag in India and over ₹275 crore worldwide by day six, They Call Him OG has firmly established itself as one of the year’s major successes. If the momentum continues, the film is likely to cross several new milestones in the coming weeks, further boosting Pawan Kalyan’s box office legacy.
