Fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya has once again become the center of attention after a long interview with podcaster Raj Shamani went viral. The former liquor tycoon and ex-owner of Kingfisher Airlines, wanted in India for massive loan defaults, currently resides in the UK.
In his prime, Mallya was known for his extravagant lifestyle, which included owning the luxurious Kingfisher Villa in Goa—a property symbolic of his ‘King of Good Times’ image. Located in the scenic Candolim beach village in North Goa, about 20 kilometers from Panaji and en route to the famous Fort Aguada, the villa covers an impressive 12,350 square feet and is spread across three acres.
The property was officially under the ownership of United Breweries Holdings (UBH), the parent company of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines.
After Mallya fled India in 2016 amid allegations of massive financial fraud and defaulted loans, the Enforcement Directorate and banks began efforts to recover dues by liquidating his assets. One of the key properties sold during this process was the Kingfisher Villa.
In 2017, the villa was purchased for ₹73.01 crore by Bollywood actor-producer Sachiin Joshi and his wife, actress Urvashi Sharma, known for her role in the film Naqaab. The deal marked a notable transition of the villa from being a venue of high-society parties to becoming a high-profile celebrity residence.
