Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh): Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan revealed on Tuesday that his youngest son, Mark Shankar (7), was injured in a fire accident during a summer camp at a school in Singapore.
Speaking to reporters in Hyderabad, Kalyan shared that Shankar suffered burns on his hands and thighs, and doctors are preparing for a bronchoscopy due to smoke inhalation, which could pose long-term health concerns. The tragic incident claimed the life of another child and injured several others.
Kalyan, who was in Araku Valley for the Adavi Talli Baata tribal outreach program, cut short his campaign after being informed by his wife and school authorities. He is scheduled to leave for Singapore immediately to be with his son. “I haven’t been able to speak to Shankar yet, but I’m told his condition is stable,” he said.
He added that the fire broke out suddenly, preceded by a loud explosion and dense black smoke. Nearby construction workers played a crucial role in rescuing the children before firefighters arrived.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally called Kalyan and offered support through the Indian High Commission in Singapore. The PMO has since initiated formal communication with the mission.
Expressing concern, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu posted on ‘X’, “I pray to God for Shankar’s speedy recovery.” YSRCP chief Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy also extended heartfelt wishes and solidarity to the family.
Kalyan thanked all leaders for their concern and confirmed he had visited Kuridi village as planned before departing for Singapore.
